Some informations about fast food chains for Slovakia

  • According to results, 61% of Slovaks eat at fast foods. Most of them are men who visit them more often than women. Fast food is most favored among young people between the age of 18 and 24 years. 36% of them eat fast food at least once a week, whereas 10 years ago it was barely half. The results are from a survey created by Focus agency, which was made in December 2012 from a sample of 1034 respondents.

  • Slovaks agree that healthy food is cheaper. Almost ¾ respondents think so. Regardless, experts say that one can eat healthy even with smaller budget. While in USA and Western Europe fast food is for poor people, in Slovakia according to income are most customers from higher salary groups of at least 1500 euro. This is mostly true for the western parts of Slovakia.

  •  We asked the general manager at McDonalds in Czech Republic and Slovakia about the revenue generated from McDonalds and the attendance of this fast food chain. The answer was clear: „Revenues from our stores in Slovakia are 20% higher than those in Czech Republic. On average 800 thousand customers visit one of our stores each year.  The reason behind these high numbers is low competition. While in neighboring Czech Republic is McDonalds over 80, here it’s only 20. The prices of the cheapest products are 10% higher on average here.”

  • This is one of the reasons why we can expect an expansion of fast foods and restaurants in the next years. “We want to open new stores in Žilina, Prievidza, Zvolen and Košice till the end of the year,” gives away Janalík.  More stores were already announced by Burger King, Subway and in smaller extent Coffe&Co.
